In France, the higher courts have not yet given their opinion. For the moment, only a first instance decision excludes any responsibility for Google Images. In SAIF v. Google, a photographers' rights management company (SAIF) sued Google in 2005 for unlawful reproduction of photographs of its members (including the famous Doisneau, Cartier-Bresson, Depardon, etc.).
